Pilvishkiai
The sysnagogue at left is in Pilvishkiai (also known as Pilvishok in Lithuanian), the home town of Isaac and Rivka Rogalsky. Isacc owned a mill in this town in the nineteenth century.
The Levenson clan
Sam Levenson is pictured here with his wife Joheved Rogalsky Levenson and their children; this picture was taken before the family emigrated to America, in Pilvishkiai. Click photo to enlarge.
From left to right: Max Levenson, mother Joheved, sisters Anna and Bessie, father Samuel, and brother Moe. At right
is a lovely portrait of Bessie when she was about sixteen years old, taken before her
arrival in the United States.
The Levenson siblings
Pictured in El Paso the 1930s, they are (from left to right) Anna Levenson Tarlowe, Sol Levenson, mother Joheved, Max Levenson, Bessie Levenson Bellman, and Moe Levenson.
Raytzel Bellman and her sons
The photo at left was taken not long before 1916, judging from the boys' ages. Click the photo to see it enlarged. You can also see a photo of Max only, from the same session. On the reverse of Max's photo is an inscription in Yiddish, which is partly obscured by ink marks and age.
If you'd like to try reading it and can send us a translation, we'll post it here. Click here to see an enlargement of the inscription.
Benjamin Bellman's bar mitzvah
Benjamin Bellman, flanked by his proud parents, Jonathan Bellman and Deborah Kauffman, at his bar mitzvah, November 2005. His cousins thought he handled his Torah portion superbly.
